I have been particularly interested in trying
to improve overall healthcare systems as well as my own personal skills and
knowledge.
Being interested in information technology, I
have gained an advanced diploma in Computer Science. The postgraduate course
"Health Informatics" at the University of Sydney I am applying is a combination of my interests,
touching on healthcare and information technology. Personally, I also believe
that upon completion of this course, I will be much better equip to fulfil my
dreams of improving healthcare systems through the engagement of information
technology knowledge.
SGH was established in 1926. It is the largest acute care
tertiary hospital in Singapore. It has a total of 1660 beds and the most
comprehensive range of clinic specialists. 10 of these specialty departments
have been established as national referral centers such as Endoscopy Center,
Diabetes Center, Rehabilitation Center, Cancer Center and Urology Center,
Center for Assisted Reproduction, etc.
SGH is
the most important training ground for doctors, nurses, and paramedical staffs
from other hospitals/health institutions, oversea exchanging training
programme, and academic schools, for example, Nanyang Polytechnic, National
University of Singapore.
Based in the heart of Nottingham, the QMC has over 6000 employees. Around
650,000 people are treated at the hospital every year and 4 million people
pass through. It is one of Europe's largest purpose built teaching hospitals -
bringing together patient care, teaching and research across a wide range of
general and specialist services. It has 25 operating theatres and 1200 beds,
along with one of the busiest Emergency departments in the UK.
Queen's Medical Centre
(popularly known as QMC or Queen's) in Nottingham, England is the largest
hospital in the UK, and admitted its first patient in 1978. It currently has
more than 1300 beds and employs more than 6000 people.
QMC was the first purpose built teaching hospital in the
UK, and consists of the University Hospital of the University of Nottingham
and the University of Nottingham Medical School.
